The worst part is I have some vague, half-formed ideas that in better times I might expand into a fic, but aside from never having successfully written slash, I'm too depressed right now to write. (Or do anything else, really. Like, say, eat, bathe, leave the apartment... you know, trivial, unnecessary stuff like that.)
I'm semi-obsessed with the idea of Schuldig relying on Crawford's shields, and I've yet to see a fic that worked that hook in a way I found really satisfying. Everybody uses it to some extent, but I can't help thinking there's still some unexploited potential there.
You've got two people with very different personalities -- one meticulous and controlled, the other reckless and passionate. They need each other, but for very different reasons -- for Crawford it's all about his vision for the future, but for Schuldig it's much more immediate and personal. Crawford sees Schuldig as a valuable tool, Schuldig sees Crawford as a safe haven. Crawford wants to keep Schuldig at a safe distance, and Schuldig wants to cling like a limpet. They've got to resent the hell out of each other for that. They're both callous and extremely selfish -- something they have in common, but which causes its own kind of conflict.
And they have shared priorities: they have to work together to get the job done and get paid. Schwarz is very much a dysfunctional family; while it's probably more possessiveness than love, they fiercely protect their own. They have this strange, precarious equilibrium, always seeming to teeter on a knife's edge, but kept in balance by their mutual need. Which only makes them resent each other more.

Honestly, could they be any more fascinating?
